ABOUT : All Mountain Collective
– Dan Patitucci
Three mountain ranges have consumed my life. As a full time professional photographer and mountain athlete for the last 25+ years, I have climbed, skied, and run nearly 365 days a year in the Alps, Himalaya, or California’s Sierra Nevada. These places shaped me as a photographer and honed me as an athlete.
Before I was a trail runner, I ran in the mountains. I ran for fun, for fitness, and I ran to go deeper into the mountains to explore. All these years later, nothing has changed, but the sport has a name now. With my climbing background, what I seek from trail and mountain running is the same as what I seek in climbing: solitude, adventure, and moving through beautiful lines in the mountains. Sometimes trails, sometimes ridges, often both. For me, running in the mountains is about combining the things I love about efficient movement in alpine terrain.
Running fitness allows me to stay out, go farther, and do more.
Mountain experience provides a skillset to make good decisions when things go sideways and navigate when the weather changes or I go off trail.
A climbing background opens doors to doing more than just running in the mountains. Objectives can be multifaceted days that have me running trails and climbing rock.
Combining these skills with my photography in the Sierra, Alps, and Himalaya provided me the opportunity to do something with my own work and build mountain and trail running resources that I could share.
In 2018, while living in Switzerland, our team of Kim Strom, Janine Patitucci, and Doug Mayer, released Run the Alps Switzerland, a print guidebook to the best trail running routes in the Swiss Alps. The book was accompanied by an online guide to support it with additional information and GPX tracks. Today, that website, ALPSinsight: The Alps Mountain Sport & Trail Running Resource, is managed by Kim and I, and has grown to 130+ trail running routes and peak climbs in the Swiss, French, and Italian Alps, including a comprehensive online guide to the very best Trail Running in Chamonix-Mont Blanc.
In 2021, along with Hjordis Rickert, we went to work in our home mountains, California’s Sierra Nevada, and produced Sierra Trail Runs : A Guide to the Eastside.
Throughout those years, we were also spending time in the Himalaya; trekking, running, and climbing. After several expeditions with Ueli Steck, the village of Chukhung had become our go to spot for mountain running and training. We became intimately familiar with the Khumbu Valley and learned how to be an athlete at high elevation. In 2026, we’ve launched a Himalaya Trail Running Guide to the Everest Region and Khumbu Valley.
With All Mountain Collective, we’ve gathered all our guides to this site — a place to learn and dream about the Alps, Sierra Nevada, and Himalaya.
I consider them the Great Ranges, I hope you do too.

As a mountain athlete, he’s been part of projects with athletes such as Kilian Jornet, Tommy Caldwell, Ueli Steck, Hilary Gerardi, and David Göttler. In 2017, Dan focused on trail & mountain running, and by splitting his time between the Swiss Alps and Bishop, California, was a partner in creating ALPSinsight, the Via Valais, Sierra Trail Runs, and All Mountain Collective.

KIM STROM
Kim is a mountain runner and cancer survivor. Since 2016, she has worked with PatitucciPhoto as a writer, photographer, athlete, and model. Spending the last decade, running through the Alps, Sierra, and Himalaya, Kim chases peaks rather than podiums, and loves the daily local loop as much as any bigger exploration.
She co-founded ALPSinsight, the Via Valais, and most recently All Mountain Collective. She also co-authored Run the Alps Switzerland and Sierra Trail Runs, and her feature stories have appeared in Patagonia’s The Cleanest Line, Runner’s World, and Trail Runner as well as numerous outdoor blogs and other publications.
Kim is now staying put in Bishop, California – making the Sierra home.
