    Phakding

Phakding is a small village about 8km outside of Lukla where many trekkers spend their first overnight heading up the valley. We like it as well. Depending on what time you arrive at Lukla, continuing higher up the valley is also possible and has the benefit of shortening your walk to Namche the second day. We stop in Phakding because we prefer a chill arrival, and really like to do this short shakeout run after any number of travel hours to get there. Plus, we love to stay at the Sherpa Guide Lodge where they have clean rooms with showers, great food, and even better coffee.

Check in, slow everything down after what was most likely a chaotic morning, then head out for this little 5km tour. Be sure to make a visit to the Rimishung Monastery at the highpoint of your run - it sets a nice tone for arriving in the Khumbu Valley.
